Chapter 1109 Did I Miss Something?

Prev Chapter Next Chapter

Nicole went home together with Samuel. She felt a little tired.

Samuel noticed her weariness and asked Wendy to fill the tub for her. He said to Nicole softly, "You go

take a bath and a nap. I'll wake you at dinner time."

Nicole wanted to say that she was fine, but she was exhausted, so she just nodded.

She went to the bedroom, and Samuel followed.

Samuel knew that Nicole was somewhat out of sorts, and he couldn't help but blame himself when he

remembered that he had made love with her over and over again.

When Nicole was bathing, Samuel received a call. Some company documents were awaiting him to

deal with online, so he went straight to the study.

Nicole felt as if she had come back to life during the hot bath.

It seemed that the fainting was normal, and there was no evidence that Viola had done anything.

However, Nicole felt that something was wrong.

'Did I miss something?'

Or was it that Viola played her cards better than before?

Nicole fell asleep thinking about these.

Samuel went to the bedroom after handling the documents. He frowned when he found that Nicole was

not on the bed.

He walked into the bathroom and saw Nicole leaning against the bathtub and falling asleep.

Her face was a little red.

It was a gut-wrenching scene for Samuel. He strode forward to carry Nicole out, wiped her body dry but

found that Nicole's temperature was frighteningly high.

"Nicole, Nicole, wake up."

Samuel tried to wake Nicole up.

Nicole only felt that someone was calling her, but she could not lift her eyelids. She felt hot and unwell.

She twisted her body, so uncomfortable that she almost cried.

"Samuel, I feel cold. And I feel hot."

The discomfort almost drove her crazy.

Samuel blamed himself for not coming to her early and called Ashley hurriedly.

Ashley was still at the racecourse and was surprised to hear that Nicole had a fever.

"What happened? Wasn't she all right when you guys left?"

Samuel didn't know what to say.

Nicole was indeed all right when she woke up in the morning, but Edwin's fainting made her nervous.

When Ashley arrived, Nicole couldn't even recognize her because of the fever. Nicole just kept

babbling.

"Why does she have such a high fever? Where did you guys go just now?"

Ashley examined Nicole right away.

Samuel whispered, "Grandfather fainted. We went to the hospital."

"She shouldn't have a fever just because of that."

Ashley looked serious.

"Let's do a blood test first."

There were inspection instruments in Samuel's house. Ashley drew blood from Nicole and did the test.

Fifteen minutes later, Ashley's expression was even more serious.

"It seems like an inflammation."

Ashley remembered Nicole's condition and couldn't help but ask, "Did you guys control yourselves last

night?"

Samuel was embarrassed by this topic, but for Nicole's health, he shook his head honestly.

"You know that Nicole is in poor health, and you'd better not have sex so often. She needs to have an

anti-inflammatory intravenous drip now. Let's see if she would get better."

"OK."

Samuel had been bestriding the business world, but now, he was like a primary school student in front

of Ashley because of Nicole.

After performing the emergency treatment, Ashley said to Samuel in a worried tone, "Let me and Blair

take care of the kids. You focus on Nicole."

"Thanks."

Samuel thought the same thing.

Nicole only felt a cool liquid flowing into her body from the blood vessels of her wrist. Her temperature

was temporarily stable. But she was still not feeling well.

She fell asleep again. She didn't know when Ashley left or when the intravenous drip was finished.

Nicole's temperature dropped a bit. Ashley said to Samuel, "You are clear about her condition, and you

need to keep an eye out for her tonight. Her temperature may not be stable due to the inflammation."

"I see."

Samuel nodded.

Ashley added something else before leaving.

Samuel was looking after Nicole all the time.

He was stressed as Nicole's temperature was still unstable.

Wendy looked at him and asked, "Mr. Green, shall I make some congee? Mrs. Green can have some

when she wakes up."

"Go."

Samuel only said a word. He was overwhelmed with guilt.

He was too impatient.

He knew clearly that Nicole was under the weather. How could he not control his desire?

The afternoon passed in the blink of an eye. Zac came home at night. He knew that Nicole was sick

and bought some fruit for her.

Samuel asked him to put the fruits aside and continued to take care of Nicole.

Nicole was in a coma all this time. When her temperature was high, Samuel cooled her down, but it

didn't take long for her temperature to rise again.

In the middle of the night, Nicole's temperature soared. Her body was burning.

Samuel was frightened.

He called Ashley again.

Lucas was at Blair's for psychological consulting, and Gabrielle was pregnant. Samuel did not want the

kids to worry, so he could only ask Ashley for help again and again.

Ashley frowned when she arrived.

"It shouldn't be. Theoretically, drip should bring her temperature down. Why doesn't it work?"

Samuel panicked.

"What should we do? Should we go to the hospital?"

"That won't work."

Ashley performed another blood test on Nicole but only found Nicole getting worse.

"How could this be? Did anyone come in here to see her?"

Samuel shook his head.

"No, I was here with her all the time. Wendy was cooking congee in the kitchen. She didn't come here."

This was the first time Ashley had encountered such a situation.

"I'll talk to my teacher to see what's going on. Her condition shouldn't be so unstable for just an

inflammation."

Samuel did not understand this field, so he could only believe Ashley.

"Samuel, I am not feeling well."

Nicole murmured. She looked listless.

Samuel hugged her without delay.

His heart ached for her when he felt the heat from her body.

"Nicole, you will be fine. I am here with you."

Samuel's voice was hoarse.

Nicole felt as if she was being roasted, and she was about to collapse from the heat.

"Ice. I need ice water."

Samuel was distressed by Nicole's dry and cracked lips.

He looked at Ashley.

Ashley shook her head and replied, "She can't drink ice water. Give her warm water or put some salt in

it."

Samuel asked Wendy to prepare.

Nicole gulped down a cup of water. But it didn't help. She still felt the sense of burning.

She felt as if she was strangled by a pair of invisible hands. She couldn't breathe.

"Samuel, Samuel...."

She kept calling Samuel's name unconsciously.

Samuel's eyes were wet.

"I'm sorry, Nicole. I'm sorry."

Samuel wanted to kill himself now.

If he knew that what he did would lead to such a result, he would never have done so.

However, what was done could not be undone.

Ashley knew that Samuel was self-blaming, but there was no use comforting him. The most urgent

matter was to decrease Nicole's temperature.

She had a video call with her teacher and sent a report on Nicole's condition and the blood test.

Samuel was nervous hearing the two of them speaking those terms.

Half an hour later, Ashley and her teacher still decided to perform the conservative therapy.

What they could do now was using both medicine and ice packs to cool her down.

Samuel had no choice but to do as Ashley said.

Ashley stayed at the Green's to take care of Nicole.

Nicole suffered from a brief shock when it was almost dawn.

Samuel was going crazy.

'Isn't it just a fever?'

'Isn't it just an inflammation?'

'Why does it almost take Nicole's life?'

Ashley was anxious, too.

She had always thought that her medical skills were good, but now, she couldn't ... even cure a fever.

Nicole was her good friend. She felt stressed out and helpless.

The two of them were busy for a long time before they managed to rescue Nicole from the shock.

However, Nicole's temperature stayed at 40 degrees. The fever reducer and the drip seemed to be

useless.

Cold sweat began to drip down from Ashley's forehead.

"Samuel, I think we should call Blair and Gabrielle for help."

Ashley said.

All Samuel cared about now was Nicole's life. He was willing to call anyone for help as long as he could

save Nicole.

Blair and Gabrielle rushed over upon hearing the news.

Lucas, who was having psychological counseling at the Hawk's, came home with Maddie after hearing

about Nicole's condition.

"Samuel, how's Mommy?"

Lucas was worried.

Samuel lost the courage to meet his son's anxious eyes.

What should he answer his son?

Should he tell Lucas that it was him that put Nicole at such a life-or-death moment?

He couldn't.

Blair said, "Lucas, we need to examine your mother. Can you and Maddie go out? Trust me, we are all

here for your mother, and we won't let anything happen to her."

Lucas hesitated for a moment, then nodded and left the room with a heavy heart.

Samuel felt that he was a sinner. He could not even breathe.

Seeing Samuel like this, Blair patted his shoulder and comforted, "You are exhausted. Go out and have

a rest, or wash your face and smoke a cigarette. Leave her to us."

"Nicole, she...."

Samuel suddenly choked up.

He and Nicole had suffered a lot and they made it. How could just an inflammation beat them?
