"Are you awake? Why don't you sleep a little more?"
Samuel quickly walked over.
Nicole glanced at Lillian, nodded slightly and smiled. She turned to look at Samuel, her eyes glittering
with shyness.
"I miss you. I'm afraid that I won't see you again."
"Are you stupid?"
Samuel took a step forward and directly held her in his arms.
Nicole wrapped her hands around Samuel's neck. They entered the bedroom.
Lillian looked at the couple in love and whispered to Petty, "Is Samuel a brother to you?"
"That's true."
Petty nodded.
Zac arranged a place for Lillian. Then the family went into the room to chat.
Samuel gently put Nicole on the bed after entering the room, but she did not let go of him. Samuel was
slightly stunned.
"What's the matter?"
"My mother is dead."
Nicole felt gloomy, her eyes filled with tears.
"Do you know? She set herself and father's corpse on fire so that they could die together in the ocean. I
couldn't even bring back her ashes. How am I ever going to explain what happened to my
grandfather?"
"Your grandfather won't blame you!"
Samuel had already knew about her mother's death. He knew that would deeply hurt Nicole, but he
wasn't sure how to comfort her.
Nicole buried her head in his arms and whispered, "I feel so useless. I've been thinking how to take
care of my mother, but it turns out I don't even know when she got into the basement. What kind of a
daughter am I?"
"Don't talk about yourself like that. You've already done a good job. She may be just too tired. Nikki,
think about it. The love she ever wanted was that from your father but he was gone. Now, she finally
fulfilled her wish by dying with him. Perhaps this is also a kind of relief. For her, this must be the best
ending. As children, we should be happy for them."
"But I'm not happy. That's my mother. My father has been gone for so many years. I have no idea what
kind of person he is. But my mother is alive. She talked with me, she comforted me, and she even did
many things for me. I remember all of this. In my memory, she was real, but now she suddenly left like
this. Samuel, I can't stand it, really."
Nicole wept in Samuel's arms, like a helpless child.
Knowing that she was suffering, Samuel just held her in his arms while she wept.
When Nicole stopped crying, the front of Samuel's shirt was soaked.
She said embarrassedly, "I'll wash your shirt later."
"It's just a shirt. Don't worry about it. Are you feeling better?"
"If not, can I continue to cry in your arms?"
Nicole blinked her big eyes at Samuel. Her watery eyes almost broke his heart.
"Sorry about all this. Sometimes I really feel worthless."
"You can't say that. Elvis was also a romantic. He just loved the wrong woman."
Nicole sighed softly and whispered, "Where is Una?"
"I don't know. Perhaps she's still waiting outside the prison."
Samuel's words slightly stunned Nicole.
"Outside the prison?"
"Well, someone said that Una had been waiting outside the prison ever since Elvis was arrested. She
insisted on staying against any persuasion. No one knew what she would do or cared about her. Elvis
had confessed everything and even the reason why he took you and mom there. You don't know how
afraid I was. I don't dare to imagine what would have happened to you if I came a little later. I am
grateful to your mother for that. I know you are sad about her death, but I believe she wanted to tell me
before she died. With the strong wind, people would soon discover such a big fire on the sea. She was
great. She delivered a message to you with her own death. She loved you. Since you know that she
loves you, you don't have to be too distressed. She will always be by your side."
Hearing Samuel's words, Nicole felt Samuel had been put into a hard place.
He had never comforted anyone like this before.
"I know, but I'm still heartbroken. Come with me to Grandpa's later. At such an old age, he might be
overwhelmed by the news of her daughter's death."
Samuel nodded.
"Alright, I'll come with you. But you should also have a good rest. Gabrielle said that you had been
worn out. If you can't recover soon, you are not recommended to keep this child."
Nicole immediately became nervous.
"I know. Don't worry. I will take care of myself. I slept for a while. You saw that, right? Let's go to
grandfather's now. I wonder if he has received any news. I'm really worried about him."
Nicole said anxiously.
Samuel couldn't bear to see Nicole like this. He sighed, "Alright, since you insist on going, I will take
you there. But remember to control your emotion."
"Alright."
Nicole left the Green's with Samuel after tidying up and headed straight to Edwin's.
Steve immediately walked to Nicole after seeing her.
"Ms. Nicole, come to see Mr. Shaw. He..."
"I know."
Nicole quickly walked into Edwin's bedroom.
Edwin sat in the bedroom, holding Audrey's photo in his hand without saying a word. However, the way
he repressed his feelings was poignant.
"Grandfather, are you alright?"
Nicole came to him and kneeled gently in front of his bed.
Edwin looked at Nicole. The shock aged him overnight.
He stretched out his hand to gently touch Nicole's face. He whispered, "You must be as heartbroken as
me, right?"
"Yes, indeed, Grandpa. It's my fault. I didn't take good care of her. I shouldn't have brought her there.
I..."
"It's not your fault. Your mom was always so determined that no one could stop her from doing what
she wanted. From the day she left home, I knew that I would never see her again in my life. But I never
expect that the day would come so fast. Distressed though I am, I'm sure that she passed away with
relief. She was able to find your father and to be buried in the sea with him. She had fulfilled her wish.
Her whole life was not happy. It was up to her how to say farewell to the world. I just feel so lonely all of
a sudden. Now I'm really alone."
Nicole's nose was a little sour. She hugged Edwin and choked, "Grandpa, you still have me, and your
grandchildren. I have another one in my belly. You must take good care of yourself. I expect you to look
after the baby later. I think mother also wanted me to take care of you. Why don't you move over to my
place and live with me?"
Edwin shook his head, "I'm not going anywhere. This is my home. In my entire arduous life, I never
expect that I would one day grieve for my child's death. It's hard to accept the news now. But don't
worry, I will adjust myself. After all, I still have you, right? I have to look after and protect you on behalf
of your mother. The person she was most worried about is you. "
Nicole's eyes were wet again.
"Grandpa."
She wept like a child on Edwin's laps.
The grandpa and granddaughter were comforting each other for losing their closest family.
Samuel stood outside the bedroom. He asked Steve in a low voice, "Has Mr. Shaw eaten anything
since mother died?"
Steve hurriedly shook his head.
"Mr. Shaw has only one daughter. Since he grieves for his daughter's death, he doesn't even drink
much water, not to mention eating. He won't listen to us."
Samuel sighed, "I'll go to the kitchen to see what food they have. We'll eat here this afternoon."
"I'll ask people to prepare the lunch."
Steve was about to stand up but Samuel stopped him.
"Leave it to me. I don't know what Nikki has been eating these days. I'd better cook lunch for her, now
that she's home. Besides, Mr. Shaw is not in good health. He needs a light diet. I'll prepare their lunch
together."
Samuel took off his coat and went to the kitchen with his sleeves rolled up.
Steve did not dare to stand by. He immediately arranged someone to help him. Then he continued to
deal with other affairs.
Nicole and Edwin mourned for Audrey's death in the room for quite a while before wiping away their
tears.
Edwin held Nicole's hand and said, "You've lost weight these past few days. I'll tell Steve to prepare
something delicious. You can stay here and have lunch with me."
"Alright. Samuel came with me and he should be arranging it already. Let's go out and take a look."
Nicole knew that Edwin might not eat anything after the shock. Although she did not have any appetite
herself, she would eat a light lunch for the sake of her grandpa and her baby.
Similarly, Edwin was not in any mood for eating. Considering the health of Nicole and her baby, he
forced a smile and followed Nicole out of the bedroom.
Steve was excited to see Edwin come out.
"Mr. Shaw, Mr. Green has already gone to the kitchen to prepare the food. It will probably be ready in a
while."
Edwin nodded and held Nicole's hand as he sat on the sofa.
Samuel's every move in the kitchen could be seen from here.
Edwin whispered, "Samuel is a good man. You shall need to treat him well."
"I see."
Nicole nodded while admiring her sweet Samuel inwardly.
They didn't know what else to say, and the room suddenly quieted down. It was so quiet that they could
hear each other's breathing clearly.
Nicole felt a little depressed. Just when she was about to get up, the phone in Edwin's living room
suddenly rang. That ear-piercing voice really shocked Nicole.
