"Mommy, can't I?"
Zoe's palms were wet. When she looked at Nicole with clear big eyes, Nicole softened.
"Why do you want to go to such a place?"
Nicole asked gently and even patted Zoe's back.
Zoe looked down and whispered, "Lucas said that the Harper Town was fun. So I want to go and take a
look. If Mommy doesn't want to, then forget it."
"Alright."
Nicole's answer stunned Zoe.
Alright?
What did she mean?
Did Nicole disagree?
Or did she want to go there?
Zoe was a little depressed.
But if she continued to ask, would it arouse Nicole's suspicions?
Thrown in an inner conflict, Zoe was anxious. Then she heard Nicole say gently, "Even if you want to
go to the bottom of the hell, mommy will keep you company and guarantee your safety, let alone the
Harper Town."
On hearing it, Zoe suddenly looked up and her eye became wet under Nicole's tender and doting eyes.
"Mommy."
She hugged Nicole tightly.
"Silly girl, you haven't slept peacefully in the Cawker's in the past few days, have you? Daddy and
mommy will sleep with you tonight, okay?"
Nicole's remark shocked Zoe.
'How does mommy know that I didn't sleep soundly in the Cawker's?'
Zoe wanted to ask something, but Nicole lay down with her arms around Zoe.
Like before, Nicole had Zoe's head pillow on her arms. Then, she patted Zoe gently and sang the
familiar lullaby in a gentle voice.
Nicole's voice was a bit husky, but it sounded comfortable.
Zoe was thinking, and slowly fell asleep again with the singing.
Nicole looked at her daughter's sleeping face with a trace of affection in her tender eyes.
When Samuel came out of the bathroom, Nicole was a little sleepy, but she looked at Zoe with tender
eyes.
"I'm getting a little jealous since you behave like this."
Samuel kissed Nicole and the latter burst into laughter.
"You are jealous of your daughter? Are you ashamed?"
"No."
Samuel hugged Nicole with burning eyes.
How could Nicole not know what Samuel's eyes meant?
She couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed.
"Zoe is here."
"What do you think I'm going to do?"
Samuel paused for a moment before laughing out loud.
Only then did Nicole know that she misunderstood.
Holy shit!
How embarrassing!
"Samuel, you bastard!"
Nicole's shy expression immediately pleased Samuel.
He whispered in Nicole's ear, "Don't worry. I will definitely not refuse your invitation when I go out later."
"Stop talking nonsense. Sleep."
Nicole blushed.
Samuel laughed heartily.
After a while, Samuel went to bed and lay down on the other side of Zoe. With a stretch of his long arm,
he took his wife and child into his arms and closed his eyes contentedly.
Perhaps Nicole had been too tense and she relaxed after she returned to the Don's. Or perhaps
Samuel and her daughter were by her side. Nicole slept soundly this time. She didn't open her eyes
until it was dawn.
Zoe was no longer in Nicole's arms. Instead, she was in Samuel's embrace. Nicole was covered with a
thin blanket. Obviously, Samuel tucked her in.
Nicole looked at her family and couldn't help but feel very happy.
She got up quietly and kissed her daughter and Samuel on their faces. Then she got up and made
breakfast for them.
Samuel woke up when she got up, but he didn't open her eyes. He waited for Nicole to go out before
looking at Zoe who was still asleep with a smile.
"Lazy girl."
Then, he closed his eyes again and rest for another while.
During these few days he had been so tired that he relapsed into neuralgia.
The medicine Joseph gave him was very useful, but Samuel didn't know where the medicine fell when
he got changed. Moreover, he was so busy in the past few days that he didn't care much about it, nor
did he tell Joseph.
Now, the sharp pain tortured him again, but he could still endure it, so he did not stop Nicole from going
out to cook this morning.
He was afraid that she would see his pale face.
Samuel rubbed his temples, then closed his eyes and waited for this wave of pain to pass.
After Nicole went downstairs, she saw Jason in the living room. She couldn't help but smile, "Good
morning, Jason."
Jason's expression was a little unnatural.
"Good morning."
"What's the matter?"
Nicole smiled faintly and didn't take it to heart. However, she heard Jason whispering, "Mange, Sally
was injured and almost died."
"What?"
Nicole subconsciously narrowed her eyes, feeling a little unhappy.
"What is she up to?"
Nicole did not like Sally at all. Now that Jason talked about her, Nicole couldn't help but feel a little
disgusted.
Sally was injured?
She almost dead?
Sally lived in Laurence's place!
She was under the protection of Night Elf Empire. How could she be injured?
Nicole thought it was Sally's trick.
Thinking of this, Nicole became even more disgusted with Sally.
Seeing that Nicole was annoyed with Sally and rejected her, Jason sighed, "It's true this time. The
assassinator dodged your people and directly entered her room. The dagger pierced directly into her
heart. If her heart were not a little slanted, she would probably be dead."
Nicole frowned tightly.
She did not completely believe Jason's statement, but she felt that there was no need for him to lie to
her.
With the phone, Nicole went to the balcony, and called Ernesto.
"What happened to Sally?"
When Ernesto heard Nicole's voice, he somewhat blamed himself.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Green. I failed to protect her. She's still in ICU. The assassin committed suicide when
he was caught. He should be a man of sacrifice. Sally is unconscious now. The dagger pierced through
her. It looks like he really wanted to end her life."
After Nicole heard Ernesto's explanation, her heart skipped a beat.
The dagger pierced through Sally?
Sally was hard if it was her trick to win Nicole's confidence.
Too many things happened in the past year, so Nicole didn't dare to be careless. She didn't want to
implicate the children because of her selfishness and so-called kindness. So, she was cautious.
"Find out who sneaked into Laurence's house. That place is filled with our people. How did the
assassin sneak into it and almost killed Sally?"
Nicole's coldness made Ernesto a little nervous.
"I have found that the assassin didn't enter with us, but from the next door to Laurence's house. Neville
conducted an experiment there. For convenience, he left a door in the backyard. We didn't know about
this until we went to ask Laurence after the accident. The back door was concealed, so it escaped our
notice."
Hearing Ernesto's remark, Nicole frowned tightly.
"How could anyone else know such a secret? Who lives next door to Laurence?"
Nicole's voice became even colder.
Ernesto broke out in a cold sweat on his head.
Since when Nicole became as scary as Samuel?
Ernesto stretched out his hand to wipe the sweat off his face and whispered, "Mrs. Green, I checked it.
The Lamberts live next door. They put up a relative more than a month ago and he was on good terms
with Cynthia. I didn't expect that he would stab Sally today and commit suicide."
"So do you mean Cynthia told the killer about the back door of her house and that I would place Sally
there?"
Nicole asked harshly.
Ernesto couldn't stand it anymore.
"Mrs. Green, I'm sorry for my negligence."
"Your negligence? Ernesto, do you know that your negligence will bring other's death?"
Nicole didn't want to be so angry, but somehow, she couldn't suppress her emotions.
Although Nicole was somewhat disgusted with Sally, Sally was related to Nicole's mother by blood and
she was her grandfather's only remaining daughter.
Even if Sally did something wrong, Nicole and her grandfather should be the ones to punish Sally.
Nicole didn't allow anyone to kill Sally in the shelter that she had given Sally.
Ernesto noticed Nicole got furious, so he couldn't help but sweat profusely.
"I am willing to accept punishment."
"Punishment is not my intention. I want the result and the truth! Such a mistake can't happen again!
You should know that Samuel has complete faith in you, and treats you as his brother, Ernesto."
Hearing it, Ernesto felt a little guilty.
He admitted that he was slack off in his work.
He thought that Laurence's home would be the safest. Even if someone was up to something, they had
to weigh it. Moreover, he didn't feel that he needed to expend a lot of effort to protect such an unknown
woman as Sally. That was why he went out to buy a pack of cigarettes during the shift change.
However, he didn't expect that something happened to Sally during this time.
Ernesto knew that no matter how he explained, it would not be enough to offset his guilt of slacking off.
He said, "Mrs. Green, punish me. I promise that this kind of thing will never happen again."
"The Lamberts? Investigate the accident carefully. I want to know what exactly happened to Sally when
she was stabbed. And tell the public that Sally is dead."
Ernesto was slightly astonished, but then he instantly understood.
"Yes."
After Nicole hung up, her eyes became a little cold. Only then did she realize that she was trembling.
She didn't know if she was angry or because of something else.
Sally almost died.
She faked her death for more than twenty years. How would she be almost killed so easily?
No matter what, Nicole felt that it was somewhat unbelievable.
If Sally was so useless, she would have died in the dangerous Country F.
Suddenly, Nicole wanted to see Sally, who was in the intensive care unit and was said to be almost
dead.
No matter who was behind this, Nicole didn't care what the mastermind wanted from her. She hoped
the one could withstand her anger.
Anger surged through Nicole, burning her like volcanic lava.
