Jace said, “I think Shawn has already swapped me by that time.” He only knew how he
was brought back to life when Jack and Sage’s parents told him after he woke up.
Shawn found a double to die in his place. He did not know how Shawn was so successful at hiding this
from the world.
Afterward, Primsone guessed that Shawn found a body very similar to Jace. Shawn made the double’s
face look like Jace, and the double was buried in his place.
This was not the first time Shawn had done this. He also set up the scene of Primrose and Sawyer’s
car accident with dead bodies and made the police believe it.
Primrose and Sawyer went along with it and escaped from Shawn’s hand. However, they were
seriously injured in that incident too. After escaping, they spent a lot of time on the island in recovery.
They happened to run into Jack, who was living in hiding. Half a year ago, they snatched Jace from
Shawn’s hand. “Shawn didn’t think I’d live. He probably took my body to blackmail you or experiment
with my genes.” Sage’s turned cold. If Shawn had captured Jace, he would be a living corpse by now.
Shawn was a complete demon who viewed himself as a being better than humans. He was devoted to
all kinds of experiments and controlling others’ fate in his hand.
He loved to play with people’s destinies. If he had her parents or Jace in his control, he would use them
to blackmail her. She would have gone mad from that.
Jace saw Sage shaking in fear and anger. Her eyes turned red with murderous intent. She was
hovering on the edge of rage and desperation.
“Sage,” he called out to her urgently and walked over to her. He woke her up and comforted her, “Don’t
be afraid! I’m back and alive! His plot didn’t succeed. Your parents are fine. We’re all alive and well…”
Jace squatted in front of Sage. He kept talking to her with a gentle and strong voice. Sage looked up at
him with her red eyes. “Don’t leave me behind again,” she forced her words out with a trembling voice.
She struggled to choke out, “Jace, don’t leave me behind again.”
Seeing her like this, Jace felt so much pain throbbing in his heart. He almost suffocated to see her in so
much distress. His eyes turned red as he got up and hugged her tight.
“I won’t.” He pressed her head close to her chest and let her feel the sound of his pounding heart. His
equally determined voice sounded above her as he choked out, “I’ll never leave you again.”
They talked for a long time and stayed this way for a long time.
They spent such a long time together until Zamora came up and interrupted them. She Inocked on the
door and asked Sage if she wanted to have dinner downstairs or in her room.
Sage was not very hungry. Then, she remembered how Jace ravished the food as if he had starved for
years.
“Who’s the one cooking on the island?”
Jace said, “At first, Uncle Sawyer cooked. After that, I learned how to cook. I cooked for everyone, but
the resources on the island were limited. We didn’t have many types of ingredients, so we mostly ate
fish for every meal.” No wonder he ate so happily earlier. He was already lucky not to starve with her
parents. Back then, she went to learn cooking because her parents’ cooking was too terrible. ‘If you do
it yourself, you’ll have enough to eat,’ was what Primrose had taught her since she was a child. 1
Sage curled her lips. “Let’s go down and eat with me. I’ll make you anything you want.” Jace was so
flattered that his eyes lit up. “You’ll cook?”
