“I’m in a rush. Let’s just cut to the chase.”
Compared to him, Sage seemed to be more calm and composed. Dressed in a formal red suit, she
looked elegant and sophisticated.
But for some reason, there was a cold vibe surrounding her.
“Okay,” Jace had always been a direct person and he too disliked people who were long-winded. Since
Sage had asked him to cut to the chase, he asked bluntly, “Are you the girl that was kidnapped ten
years ago at Cloud Forest?”
Sage felt her chest tighten and felt a knot in her stomach. She thought that she had mentally prepared
herself but the moment he threw out this question, her mind was immediately flooded by the
flashbacks. Forcing herself to me this gaze, she replied, “Yes. You were the one who saved me.”
Jace felt as if someone was tugging at his heartstrings.
Even though he knew the answer but when Sage admitted it herself, he was still startled. Meeting
Sage’s gaze, he felt something bubbling inside of him.
Jace thought that life worked in funny ways: they met ten years ago in that hostile situation and after
ten years, they were sitting next to each other.
Feeling his lips go dry, Jace cleared his throat before looking into Sage’s eyes. “So, you came to me
three years ago, to take care of me and even got married to me just to repay my kindness?”
Sage did not avoid his question. Instead, she asked, “Do you really think that I’m the type to marry
someone just to repay their kindness?”
There was a flicker in his eyes. Feeling a chum in his stomach, he asked, “Then you…”
‘I only married you because I liked you.”
Sage felt as if the weight pressing down on her chest was finally lifted. She finally felt a sense of relief
after being honest about her true feelings.
It was as if she was freed.
Jace, on the other hand, felt something explode in him the moment he heard Sage saying that she
liked him.
“Liked, past tense,” Sage added, “I used to like you. To be exact, I’ve had a crush on you for a long
time.”
She had spent her entire youth having a crush on him.
It used to be sweet in the beginning, but the feelings started turning bitter, and gone was her youth. The
reason why her marriage had failed was also because of this stupid crush.
But she did not regret it one bit. At least, Jace had taught her what it felt like to love someone.
Jace felt a rush of mixed feelings when Sage emphasized that her feelings for him were already in the
past.
Pressing his lips together, he asked, “Then, why did you lie to me? Why did you hide your true identity
from me?”
“Because I am one of the Norahs.”
Sage added indifferently, “Putting aside the rivalry between Yuriel Group and Norah Group, during that
time, my parents had just passed away and because of the mess in my family, I thought that it was best
for me to hide my real identity.”
Jace gulped and asked, “I heard that your parents were headed to Nadeem City to meet my family
about the marriage?”
“Yeah.”
Sage thought that there was nothing left to hide anymore so she added, “They know that I like you and
that they won’t be able to persuade me, so even though our families are not on good terms, they
wanted to give me what I wanted.”
Furrowing her brows slightly, she continued, “There are days where I’d think that if it wasn’t because of
my wishful thinking, my parents wouldn’t have driven all the way to Nadeem City and perhaps
everything after that would not have even happened?”
Looking at Sage’s face who had turned pale, he felt sorry for her. “Sage…”
“It’s fine.”
Sage tried to regain her composure before saying, “You don’t have to feel sorry for me. I chose to like
you and this had got nothing t o do with you. And like I said, it was in the past.”
Staring right into his eyes, Sage added, “Jace Yuriel, I’ve already repaid what I owed you. And I’m
pleased to say that I don’t love you anymore.”
