“The whiskey wasn’t from the kidnappers? Who were they from?” Jace replied, “They
were gifted by Sage.” Yoel’s eyes widened. “Sage?”
Jace gulped down half a glass and looked up. He visualized Sage’s bright smile. Years ago, when they
saved her from the kidnappers, her family came and took her immediately. Jace carried her to the car.
She smiled with her filthy face and asked, “How do I repay you for saving me?” “No need. It’s our duty,”
Jace replied. Sage was persistent. “No, I have to. What do you need most right now?” Jace thought for
a moment and answered, “We need liquor.”
They found a whole carton filled with whiskey as they cleaned up the place. Back then, he knew that
Sage had sent it to them, but he never told anyone about it.
.
That was why Yoel did not know. His eyes were filled with jealousy. “Hey, we were on that mission
together. I was considered one of her saviors too. Why did she only repay you? Just because you were
the one who carried her?”
Yoel kept getting angrier by the minute. He felt the need to have a sit-down conversation with Sage
about it, and he hoped to change Sage’s attitude toward him.
Jace did not know why either. He never thought she would repay him because he was just on duty.
Jace never understood why she fell for him. He was unsure if he would ever have the chance to
reconcile with Sage.
It was difficult to gather the siblings together, and it only happened because of Sage’s birthday. They all
went back to their respective places after the party. Nigel went back to Rosa Garden to visit their
mother’s shrine before heading back to Brown City. Sage frowned as she saw him. “You reek of
alcohol. Did you guys have much to drink last night?” “Really? I showered before I came here.” Nigel
took a sniff, and indeed, he still had an alcohol scent lingering on his body. His dark eye circles were
prominent as well. He scrunched his nose and said, “It was all Luther’s fault. He kept making me drink.”
Sage shook her head helplessly and said to Zamora, “Aunt Zamora, please get him some aspirin and
mouthwash. He’ll be grilled once he’s back at Brown City smelling like that.” Nigel thought of Sean and
shuddered. Then, he smiled at Zamora and said, “Please, Zamora.”
Sage laughed and teased him, “Look at you, all obedient to Sean.” Nigel snapped, “No, he’s the one
obedient to me.” “Yes, yes, he is. That’s why you’re so afraid of him,” Sage teased back.
Nigel got mad and wanted to punish Sage. Instead, she ran swiftly up the stairs and held out her
tongue cheekily. Nigel exclaimed, “Come down at once! I’ll promise not to hit you hard!”
