Jace’s plan was almost the same as Sage’s. From what they knew, Sienna was seemingly ‘sold’ to
Peter by Lucas in order to save Luna.
However, these were all part of Jekyll’s game.
Lucas, Sienna, and Peter were all Jekyll’s pawns. Lucas and Sienna were easily manipulated, but
Peter, on the other hand, was not just any other pawn. He agreed to Jekyll’s plan only because he had
his own plan to execute. From what they had learned about Peter, he was a through and through
opportunist. He did everything with benefits in mind. He was a scheming, ambitious man.
From an outside perspective, it might seem like the reason he had a successful career was because of
his wives, but his fathers-in-law always seemed to be more successful than his previous ones.
Those wealthy and successful old men all wanted Peter as their son-in-law. They did not care about his
background or his marital history because of his capabilities. With that, Jace and Sage knew not to do
anything reckless before they thoroughly understood Peter’s capacity. After reading about Peter’s
biography, Jace and Sage both agreed that Peter was no regular man.
Peter had contributed plenty. He had even been a spy for certain organizations and broke plenty of
cases. He was deeply unpredictable and calculative. Setting aside his private life, he was a man who
would never put his power and status at risk by fooling around.
Peter would never put his power and future at the hands of a woman like Sienna.
“I can’t figure out what Jekyll had promised Peter for him to work alongside him, but I strongly believe
Peter would betray him,” Jace analyzed. Sage agreed and said, “But Jekyll could also have some dirt
on Peter, and if that’s the case, Peter would either let him go or make sure he died on the way out.”
Jace and Sage were silent as they both gave each other their tacit agreement.
What was left was for Yale to do his thing so they could proceed to the next step.
Sage took a deep breath after hearing everything Jace said and said to him, “Thank you for doing
this.”
Jace paused for a second and said hurriedly, “Don’t even mention that. I’m just doing what I should.”
Sage wanted to deny that, but she thought it would be annoying to say the same things over and over
again.
“When everything is done, I’ll buy you a meal.” Jace’s heart skipped a beat, even though he knew she
was only doing it to be polite, the fact that she even suggested it was a big step forward for Jace.
“Okay!” Jace said as if he was worried that she might take that back, “That’s a promise then! I … I’ll
wait for you.”
Sage noticed how excited he was and thought that he might have misunderstood her intention. She
wanted to take it back, but it was too late.
Sage hung up the phone before things got too out of hand. Jace gripped his phone as he was
overwhelmed with emotions. For the past six months, ever since he was separated from Sage, his
emotions had been all over the place. His life and his personality have changed immensely ever since
then. He finally understood himself and the reality.
He learned about love.
He learned that he used to be a jerk, that he had hurt people and done ignorant things that were
unforgivable. He should have let Sage go, but he could not.
He could be a generous person at any time and anywhere, but not when it came to Sage. He wanted to
be selfish with her!
He loved her. He wanted her. That was all there is to it!
Jace’s phone rang again, from a number he did not recognize. It was a call from Salem City.
