Sage and the other two were waiting in Room Elegante for a while before Sean showed up.
Suki and Dean both got up to greet the latecomer but were stunned upon seeing the man who walked
irî. They were both aware that Sean was young and successful, but had no idea that he had the looks
going on for him as well.
Sean had worn a striped suit that day. He was standing at 180 centimeters with chin length wavy hair,
and a pair of gold framed glasses sitting on top of his nose bridge. Curling around his wrist was a Lorex
watch. A typical look for a young urban professional.
“Apologies for the long wait, my schedule was delayed because of the traffic today.”
Sean’s voice was on the lower side, that even his apologies sounded solemn.
Suki and Dean both denied his lateness whilst Sage said, “The meatballs are getting cold, Mister
Chester!”
Sean’s face loosened up immediately as he took his suit off and said in a casual tone, “Let’s dig in then,
your meatballs are the only reason I came all the way from Brown City to Salem City!”
Sage snapped her fingers and called for the dishes to be served, along with a bottle of aged wine. The
wine had been stored and hidden away for so long that they even had to dust it off. “Mister Chester,
here’s a bottle of aged red, my brother specifically ordered for me to prepare this for you.”
As Sean lit up a cigarette, the corner of his lips curled up, “That’s my man.”
Once the dishes and alcohol was served, Seas put out his cigarette immediately and took a bite of the
meatball. His eyes sparkled with anticipation as he exclaimed, “That’s right, this is exactly what I’ve
been craving for!”
Sage urged for Suki and Dean to dig in as well. Along the way, they talked about the progress of the
case.
Eating and talking about work at the same time could be a downer for some but they had no choice as
Sean – being a busy lawyer – could not afford to waste a single second of his time. Sean had always
valued his time; thus making him a straightforward, no bullsh*t type of man. They went straight into the
topic of the case they were working on. Dean’s side was willing to pay for the liquidated damages,
whilst Sage had already paid off Dean’s debt for Lionel, thus it would be easy to terminate the contract.
Suki’s end, however, would be a tough one.
Lionel would never let Suki, his personal pot of gold off that easily. On top of that, Suki had been with
Lionel for many years, their bonds were inseparable. Suki knew way too much about Lionel, and Lionel
had something on Suki as well. As soon as she terminates the contract, Lionel would make sure that
she would never get the chance to see daylight ever again.
Sage and Dean frowned as they looked at Suki upon hearing what Sean had said about Lionel.
Suki smiled defeatedly as she lit up a cigarette. “I predicted this from miles away. I knew from the
beginning that he’d rather destroy me with his own hands than to let me go.” Sage’s lips quivered as
she was about to say something when Sean went ahead and said with a blank face, “Has Lionel ever
attempted to sexually assault you when you were unconscious?” That question was too straightforward
and sudden. So much so that it made Suki twitch as the ash from her cigarette fell onto the ground.
“Mister Chester…” Sage’s brows knitted together as she attempted to stop Sean. Sean waved his
hands to disregard Sage, and continued with his question, “All you had to say was a yes or no.”
Even though Suki had gone through plenty of unspeakable things over the years, Sean’s direct
approach under the presence of so many people had rendered her to feel shameful, as if she had been
stripped naked under the daylight.
Sean was notorious for being an oddball. Aside from being an excellent lawyer, he was also great at
exposing someone’s deepest, darkest secrets. No one would ever turn to him unless they had no other
choice. Seeing how pale Suki’s face had turned, the answer was obvious. Sage ordered for the private
room to be shut and locked as she turned over to face Suki. “Don’t mind him, Miss West. Mister
Chester had no intention of shaming and embarrassing you. Just like how a doctor needs to treat their
patient, a lawyer needs their client to be honest to them as well. You understand where all of this is
coming from, right?”
