A dead silence pierced through the room.
“My my, look at me. I just remembered that I have a medical appointment with Doctor Samuel.
Jace’s grandmother added, “Honey, let’s go. Didn’t you want to drop by the museum?” Jace’s
grandfather nodded, “Oh right! I’ll be taking my leave then, Sage!”
Jace’s uncles too suddenly checked their wristwatch. “There’s still some work left to do at the office,
we’ll be leaving now as well. Take care of yourself, Jace.”
Zachary said, “Jace, I have some assignments that I need to rush, I’ll be leaving too now. See you
around, Sage!”
Faye and Zachary then waved goodbye to Sage and Jace. With her eyes full of smiles, Freya left the
ward and closed the door behind her. Within a few seconds, everyone in the Yuriel family left, leaving
Sage and Jace alone in the room.
Sage was stunned. She then felt the grasp around her wrist being tightened. Looking at her hand, her
brows knitted into a frown when she realized that Jace was still holding her hand.
“Sorry.”
Jace was worried that she would get angry. He quickly apologized and let go of her hand. He could still
feel her warmth on the tip of his fingers. Looking at him, Sage asked, “Do you have something to say?”
“Yeah.”
Jace nodded. “Please sit.”
Sage sat down and said, “Thank you for what you did for me.”
“Don’t mention it, it’s nothing big.”
In a slightly husky voice, he added, “It’s what I had to do, to make sure that you don’t get hurt.
“You didn’t have to do anything. It’s not like you owe me anything.”
Sage added, “But you were hurt because of me, and it was twice. I’ve helped you remove the blood
clots and cranial surgery is considered high-risk surgery. There is a high chance that you might get an
infection, hence you should rest more and take care of yourself.”
“Okay, I will.”
Jace stared intently at her. “Thank you for saving me again.”
And this time, Sage responded, “It’s what I’m supposed to do. You got hurt because of me, it’s what I
owed you. Let me know if there’s anything else you want me to do. I’ll do whatever I can to help you.”
Her words caught Jace off guard. He felt his heart slamming uncontrollably against his chest. He was
suddenly reminded of his family’s cheers and support earlier.
He knew that he should not take advantage of Sage at this moment but…
This was the closest that he was with Sage after their divorce.
The heart rate monitor showed an increase in Jace’s heartbeat. Sage looked at him and frowned. “Why
are you getting all excited?”
She then poured a glass of water and placed the glass next to his lips. She then put her hand over his
chest and said, “Patients who just underwent a cranial surgery must not get too worked up, it will only
increase the chances of you getting an infection. You better try to calm down…”
Jace too wanted to calm down but with her hand on her chest, Jace’s heart was only beating faster.
Seeing how the numbers on the heart monitor increased drastically, Sage suddenly realized something
and quickly removed her hand from his chest.
Right then, Jace got hold of her hands again. That time, he grabbed her hand instead of her wrist. His
eyes were reddened. “Don’t move, stay here.” Holding her hands, feeling the warmth of her palms,
Jace felt calmed. His heartbeat was gradually returning to normal. Sage sighed in relief when the heart
rate monitor showed that Jace’s heartbeat returned to normal.
She wanted to remove her hand from his grasp but she was worried that it would trigger him, hence
she allowed her hand to be held by Jace.
