The pony was just as frightened by the sudden turn of events. After Melody finally
recovered from her outburst, she walked up to the pony and started stroking its mane to calm it down.
“Were you shocked? Don’t be scared Ross, I won’t let him do anything to you. You’re mine, and I’ll
make sure that you’re taken care of,” said Melody as she lightly pat the pony.
Yoel was bemused by Melody’s words and he turned to Sage, “She’s funny. Did you raise her?”
Sage wasn’t planning on hiding anything, “Almost. Melody was adopted by my brother, Ross. Ross
found her abandoned at a foot of a mountain and he took her home. Then he told everybody that she
was his, and said her mother died during childbirth. Grandmother believed him and raised her like our
own. Not long after, Grandmother fell ill and could no longer keep Melody by her side. After that,
Melody was sent to Rosa Garden.” Yoel was surprised by Sage’s explanation, he could not believe that
the famous doctor Ross actually had a daughter that nobody knew of.
An adopted daughter…
Yoel looked at Melody, and saw the brightest smile on her face. He saw how innocent she looked, and
could not help but feel the question arise, is Melody a fortunate or an unfortunate kid?
After that, everybody continued riding. However, the sun began to brighten, and not long after,
everybody was drenched in sweat. Even the horses were caught lazing around due to the heat.
Sage and Yoel raced around the course. Of course, it was only a friendly competition and they didn’t
even follow through with the competition and it ended before a winner could be determined. After that,
all the people moved indoors to drink some beverages and stay away from the heat.
Everyone could not help but wonder if the weather forecast was right or wrong. The forecast said that
there would be rain today, but judging from the clear skies, nobody believed that it would be raining
anytime soon. Hunter stood outside of the changing room waiting for Sage, the moment he saw Sage
walkout, he passed her the tablet in his hand. “Miss Sage, the reports are garnering a lot of attention.
Our marketing department has also made effort to push it to the masses,” reported Hunter.
Sage glanced at the tablet before giving it back to Hunter. “There’s no need to show me, you can do as
you see fit. I only want to see the results,” said Sage. Hunter was taken aback by how Sage was clearly
giving him the autonomy to make changes as he sees fit. After a moment of hesitation, Hunter finally
replied, “Will do.”
Sage turned towards him and asked, “Too much pressure?”
“Not at all,” replied Hunter confidently.
“Don’t be too full of yourself. I’ll put you in charge of Jefferson’s Group for now. How well you’ll perform
will allow you to garner some capital for yourself and your wife,” explained Sage. Hunter’s eyes lit up,
he could almost see the mountain of money that was waiting for him in the near future. “I understand!”
replied Hunter. “I’ll make sure to work extra hard for my future wife,” added Hunter in a soft voice.
Sage smirked as that was the effect she wanted.
Not long after, Sage was about to leave the racecourse when her phone suddenly buzzed. Sage
opened her phone and saw a message from Zachary. [I got some pastries from the Cherry Blossom
Patissiere in Nadeem City for you. It’s on its way. Remember to put it in the oven before eating for
optimal taste. XOXO] Sage’s brow furrowed, she felt that something was up with Zachary. The tone of
his message was quite strange. Especially the first part of the message, it reminded her of Jace.
Only the last part of the message seems to resemble how Zachary usually texts.
‘Could Jace be using Zachary’s phone to text me?’ wondered Sage. She quickly refuted that thought as
she didn’t think that Jace would ever do something like that. Sage was interrupted from her train of
thought by the buzzing of the phone in her hand.
(Sage, I got a new girlfriend, she loves the new rose gold bracelet from Norah Jewelry. But I spent all of
my pocket money already. Would you mind giving me a discount on the bracelet?]
Sage’s brow finally unfurled. This was the Zachary she knew.
She replied to him with two words.
(I mind.) After that, she added another line. (I mind giving a discount, but I don’t mind giving it as a gift.)
