“Mom, have a drink.” Jace poured a glass of warm water for Freya.
Freya gazed at Jace intently. This still felt like a dream.
“Jace, what‘s going on? I saw your body with my own eyes. How did you survive?” Freya asked Jace a
s she pulled him and made him sit beside her.
Jace saw his mother‘s graying hair and wrinkles at the corner of her eyes. He felt that she had aged a l
ot in the past six months.
Only those who had gone through the pain of losing a loved one could understand the pain.
He asked, “Did you touch the corpse in the morgue?”
Freya shook her head. The memory of that day still pained her. “I lost it when they pulled down the whit
e cloth and
revealed your face. I couldn‘t accept it at all. How could I have the courage to touch you? Yoel and Cole
were the ones who helped with the funeral.”
After that, Freya looked up at him. “Do you mean that corpse isn‘t you?”
“Of course not. How else could I be sitting in front of you?”
Jace smiled and told her the story. He had not hidden the part about Sage‘s parents‘ story too. Primros
e specially told him to share it with Freya.
“When you go back, everyone will ask who saved you. Don‘t tell others about us, but you don‘t have to
hide it from your mother. We‘ll meet sooner
or later anyway. Tell her earlier and let her be mentally prepared. We don‘t want to scare her when we
meet later.”
Primrose added, “I‘ve wanted to befriend your mother for
a long time. I heard she gets along very well with my daughter. They‘re more like mother and daughter t
han I do.”
Freya‘s initial surprise at learning that Sage‘s parents were still alive turned to delight.
“Did she really say that? Hahaha... Primrose is my idol!”
Freya‘s eyes glowed when she spoke of Primrose. Her eyes were full of admiration for her.
She said with a long sigh, “As expected of Primrose. She‘s always doing some unexpected and amazin
g things. I was really sad when she died. I lamented her early death. Now, I learn that Sage‘s parents a
re still alive. You‘re alive too, and they saved you. Maybe this is really fate.” Jace chuckled. “Yeah, I thin
k fate is wonderful too.” “Jace, your safe return is God‘s greatest gift to me.” Freya patted Jace‘s hand.
“We both have a difficult
fate. We‘ve been dependent on each other for so many years. Fortunately, we‘re blessed with luck. I‘ve
thought a lot over the past six months. I‘ve learned a lot from
Roy too. Life is not easy, so just go with your heart and do what you want to do while you still can. Love
whoever you want to as long as you don‘t let others and yourself down. This is good enough.”
“You‘re right. I feel the same way too.” Jace knew what Freya was implying. “I‘ve hurt Sage so much
in this life. This time, I‘ll give my life to love her and protect her. Whether she wants to be with me or not,
Tears welled in her eyes and she nodded. “Of course I do. I‘ll support you unconditionally!” Jace said wit
Meanwhile, Luther was still barking on the call with Sage, who was in the courtyard.
“Holy crap! D*mn! Did you know Mom and Dad are alive?”
Luther came to his senses and thought Sage should not have been so calm. Maybe she knew it long ag
Sage said faintly, “What? Who do you
think saved Jace?” Luther fell into silence on the other end of the call.
