Sage picked up the call from Yoel but heard Jace’s voice from the other side of the phone
instead.
“Hey.”
Sage frowned when she also heard Yoel over the phone laughing hysterically. Luther, who had just
been through that torment, was familiar with that laugh. He knew exactly what was going on. Luther
never wanted to laugh ever again! Sage knew what was happening but asked anyway, “What’s up with
him?” Jace answered, “He stole two bags of pistachio from the girl’s bag. He started laughing when he
was about to eat the second bag.” Yoel, who was still laughing, almost died from anger. Is this what
they call karma? Yoel had been fooling around with love for so many years. He had always been able
to get off scot-free, but this time, he almost got himself killed by a mere underaged girl! Was that the
karma for all the sins he had committed in the past as a heartbreaker?
The Looming District had really tight security. Cars that had not been registered would not be allowed
in.
Sage had never planned on letting Jace know her exact address, so she had them wait by the security,
and she would bring the medicine over. Jace and Yoel got out of the car and waited by the entrance
patiently.
Before Sage arrived, two other women pulled up out of nowhere. A white BNW seven series stopped
by the entrance and winded down their windows, revealing Luna and sienna’s faces.
Luna was driving whilst Sienna sat in the passenger seat. Neither of them could believe that Jace was
standing right before them. “Jace, what are you doing here?”
Jace looked as cold as ever. He was reminded that his father, Lucas, and Luna’s new house was also
in the Looming District. Yoel laughed again before Jace could respond.
Sienna was startled by the laugh and held onto her chest as she opened the door to get out of the car.
He looked at Yoel’s unusual face and asked, “Mister Fulton, what’s going on with you? Why are you so
happy?” Yoel could not mutter anything other than continue laughing audibly and loudly.
Jace felt embarrassed standing next to Yoel, wishing he could kick him into the ditch. He looked into
the district, hoping Sage would get there soon. Luna’s hands were still on the steering wheel when she
asked with a smile, “Jace, don’t just stand there. Come on in since you’re already here.” Jace did not
answer, nor did he look at them. He looked straight ahead as the corner of his lips lifted slightly Sienna
was about to say something when he saw Jace smile and follow the direction of his glaze.
There she was, Sage! What is that woman doing here?! Sienna’s eyes met Sage’s. Sage blinked
slowly. She, too, was surprised to see Sienna here. Life works in a funny way; the more you never want
to see someone, the more you see them. Maybe it is just bad luck
The barrier gate by the entrance dropped back down when Luna’s car stopped and did not pass
through
Sage tossed the bag of medicine to Jace through the barrier gate and said to him, “Feed him one now
and another one in thirty minutes.”
Yoel could not wait any longer and snatched the medicine from Jace’s hands, swallowing one instantly
Jace wanted to say something to Sage when the barrier gate rose up again, and Luna’s car
accelerated toward Sage! “Watch out!”
