Sage arrived backstage and was greeted by nobody.
She frowned in disappointment.
A light gray suit and a smoking pipe were Grandpa’s signature items. Sage was certain it was him.
Grandpa did come after all, but why did he leave before the wedding ceremony ended?
He could have at least come to see her, or so she thought.
Jace caught up with her and was stunned upon seeing Sage. Her expression was of a helpless child.
Sage’s perky nose was curled up, and her lips pursed… What happened?
“What’s going on? Did you see a ghost?” Yoel finally caught up and said while panting. Jace shut him
up with a glare.
Sage ignored them completely. She stood there without saying a single word whilst looking around for
the figure to return but was greeted with disappointment.
“Miss Sage!”
Hunter ran backstage in a hurry and was stunned by the two men standing by the entrance. He walked
over to Sage calmly after catching his breath.
Hunter whispered in Sage’s ears, “Mister Wayne did go back to his old house at Holly Springs, and
came to Salem City when he received the wedding invitation…”
Sage glared at him coldly and grumbled, “Didn’t I say to keep a close eye on him?”
“My apologies, Miss Sage. This is my mistake.”
Hunter bowed his head and apologized, he further explained, “You were still in Ark Town when I found
out Mister Wayne’s whereabouts. When you finally returned, you were met with some trouble. I got so
busy with all of it that I had forgotten to pass the message.”
“Say goodbye to your bonus this season,” Sage spat as her face darkened.
“…Yes, Miss Sage.” Hunter felt the pain, but there was nothing he could do or say as this was truly his
mistake.
Sage could be really ruthless when she flipped. “Grandpa was here just moments ago. Have someone
to look for him, and you have one day. If you fail to find him, you can say goodbye to your year-end
bonus as well.”
“Yes, Ma’am!”
Jace and Yoel heard the whole conversation but were still left with confusion.
As soon as Sage left the scene, Yoel stopped Hunter and interrogated him, “Who is Mister Wayne?
Sage’s grandpa?”
“Sorry, gentlemen. This is Miss Sage’s privacy. I’m in no place to disclose anything.”
Hunter did not dare to waste a second. He immediately ordered his people to start looking for Wayne.
Yoel was baffled as he said in uncertainty, “It should be Sage’s grandpa, Braxton and Zane Norah’s
father. So he’s still alive? Why haven’t I heard of him before?”
Jace frowned as he said, “If you have nothing better to say, just stay quiet.”
Yoel glared at Jace’s back as he left and growled, “It’s bad enough to be scolded by Sage. What rights
do you have to insult me…”
When they got back to the hall, the ceremony had progressed to a romantic photo-sharing session,
where they showed photos of the bride and groom as children on the screen.
Sage was unsure of how this odd tradition of showing two seemingly different persons into a pair and
calling them a match made in heaven and crediting it all to ‘fate’ was formed.
Jace was also a victim. He was immediately reminded of his own wedding by watching the slides of
photos flashing in and out of the screen.
