“Knock, knock” Jace stood in front of the door at unit 88, raised his hand, and knocked on the door.
The door opened, and Yale was standing there looking at Jace. He lifted his brows and slowly called
out Jace’s name, “Mister Yuriel.” He did not ask the reason for Jace’s visit and moved his body while
raising his hand. “Please come in.”
Jace nodded and walked into the unit. Room 88 at Skye Hotel was prepared for Luther, Sage, and the
other brothers. Of them all, Luther and Sage stayed here more frequently. When the other brothers
were in Salem City, they mostly stayed at Rosa Garden and sometimes here in Skye Hotel
The huge unit had three bedrooms and one living room. The master bedroom was being occupied by
Sage and it was full of her stuff. The other two bedrooms were clean and tidy.Yale slept in the bedroom
nearer to the balcony. After having Jace in, Yale asked lightly, “What do you want to drink?”
“Anything,” Jace answered.
“Beer?” Yale asked. “Okay,” replied Jace. As the two men opened their beers, both of them drew a
tissue and wiped off the opening area at the same time. They looked at each other, and Yale asked,
“You have Mysophobia?
Jace replied, “No, just OCD.” Yale smiled, “Me too.” At the same time, they raised the beers in their
hands and drank them silently. Neither of them was a person who talked a lot. They did not speak until
they had drunk half of the beer, and they were not embarrassed as well. All they did was sit there
quietly, having their own thoughts in their mind.
After a while, Jace, who visited without asking ahead, initiated the conversation, “So, are you here in
the country because of Jekyll?”
Yale looked at Jace with his light grey pupils. He did not blame Jace for being abrupt and was not
surprised by Jace’s intentions as well. On the contrary, he admired Jace’s directness because that
would save time and the trouble of socializing.
Thus, Yale answered him directly, “I came back to pay a visit to my ancestors. Salem City was because
someone had entrusted me to do a job.” Jace’s dark pupils shrank, “Sage was the one?” Yale nodded,
“You could say so.”
To Yale, Tim’s request was the same as Sage’s request. There was no difference.
Jace’s heart trembled. “I see.”
He raised his head and drank a quarter of the beer. Then his slender fingers grabbed the beer can
tightly, causing the can to make a compressed sound. Yale glared at Jace while guessing what Jace
was thinking in his head. He closed half of his eyes and said daringly, “You still care about her.”
Jace lifted his head and made eye contact with Yale Yale had a pair of deep eyes. They looked very
clear, without any hint of teasing or mockery, so clear that Jace was unable to hide his feelings from it.
Hence, he admitted, “Yes, I care about her.” “Then why did you let her leave since you care about her?”
Yale asked a soulful question, “As far as I know, you two had divorced.”
The broken heart was once again being pierced and wounded. Jace thought his heart was already
numbed, but he could still feel pain. “Yes.” Jace choked, “Because of my wrong decision, I hurt her, and
I was the one who pushed her away.” No one except those who were close to him knew about what
went on between him and Sage. He had never talked about it with other people. He thought it was
unnecessary, but in the end, whenever he mentioned it, he felt like a thousand pairs of knives was
carving his heart.
