Jace pressed his lips into a tight line. He was out for words and could not express the bitterness in him.
Yoel scolded him for being as blind as a bat. The two women from the Zelda family had fooled him. He
mistook them for the kindest angels with the purest heart. He thought they were nice people, but
clearly, they were dumb and vicious.
Yoel had seen countless women’s true colors before and could easily see through them. When he first
met Luna and Sienna, he knew they were bad people. Their ill intention was clearly written on their
faces. Yoel did not even bother to look at them.
“Oh, you. You’re just too inexperienced with women that you assume they are as pure as they look.
Listen. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Some women that look tough and smart on the outside, like
Sage, aren’t necessarily as strong inside.” Yoel went on and on.
“A strong woman may look tough outside, but they’re kind inside. They are like hedgehogs. They are
full of thorns, but you’ll know they’re soft and fluffy once they open up to you. However, those who look
pure outside may not necessarily be an angel. They may be the devil. Don’t forget, Satan used to be an
archangel. Women like this always deceive others with their innocent faces.”
Yoel said wisely, “This is the time for you to distinguish right and wrong and to see their true colors. Oh,
Jace. I hope you learn your lesson!”
Jace wondered if he was truly as blind as a bat and was indeed deceived by their innocent faces.
He said slowly, “When I was young, the Zelda family lived next door. We were neighbors. At that time,
they were still the scholarly family at most. Dane and Francesca used to be teachers. They taught us
before when we were in school.”
“When I was young, my mother was very strict with me. I was young, ignorant, and stubborn. I felt
angry whenever she beat me and scolded me. I would run outside to fight with people, but I didn’t dare
to go home even though I was injured.”
“Luna saw me injured a few times, so she kindly took me back to her house and treated me. Luna was
very gentle and felt more motherly than my strict mother. She made me feel warm.”
Sage did not expect Jace to tell her this. However, she finally understood Jace’s feelings after he
shared about his past. She did not understand why he was so close to the two women from the Zelda
family, and this cleared her doubt.
Nothing could match a woman’s kindness during a needy time. A woman’s gentleness was fatal to a
boy who lacked love as a young child.
“As for Sienna…”
Jace paused. His eyes darkened. “Back then, many people bullied and mocked me because of my
father. Sienna was probably the only one who didn’t hurt me. She’s the one who approached me and
talked to me. Whenever I was hurt, she would give me candy or a piece of
watermelon. When I was bullied, she would run over to help me. She tried to help me when I fell into
the pool and nearly drowned. Ever since then, I promised to marry her when I grow
Sage wore a half-smile. “Oh, she’s your childhood sweetheart. That’s sweet.” A simple promise he
made when he was a child became an unbreakable obsession and responsibility when he grew up. In
the end, it also led to a tragedy. It was only later that Jace learned that Luna was the one who ordered
the children to bully him. Luna fell in love with Lucas, but she had no chance to seduce him. Freya
guarded him too closely. The young Jace became Luna’s best bet in tearing Freya’s and Lucas’
relationship apart. The thing that made Freya collapse was not Lucas’s fondness for Luna. Luna carried
Jace in her arms and deliberately took a photo of a family of three. At last, their closeness was the last
straw that broke Freya’s strong mind.
Luna also sent Sienna over to take care of Jace. She forced Sienna to make Jace feel loved. Sienna
gave Jace the candies that she licked before and the spoiled watermelon.
She approached little Jace only because of a bet she made with other children. The accident where he
fell into the pond was real, but it also haunted Jace for half his life. When Sienna was a child, she was
good at pretending to be innocent. She enjoyed the love and admiration of boys for her. Jace was
indeed a blind fool.
