Sage took Melody to the corner of the room by her ear. Melody stayed silent as Sage
scolded her for her actions.
Melody knew that what she did today was considered too much, and Sage’s anger was justified. That
was why she did not argue with Sage and instead just stood there and listened to what she had to say
in fear of making Sage any angrier than she already was.
After Sage was done, Melody finally lifted her chin and looked at Sage pitifully, “I’m sorry, Sage. I won’t
do it again. Please forgive me.”
Sage was never the type to be easily persuaded. She kept her angry face on and continued,” Just tell
me the truth. What are you trying to accomplish here?” Melody looked at Yoel who was standing at the
window with a cigarette in his mouth and said, “I think I like Yoel, but he still thinks I’m a kid. I just want
him to see that I’m not a kid.” Melody even puffed up her chest to accentuate her point.
Sage could not understand what was going through the young girls head nowadays. Looking back, she
finally understood why her brother always seemed to be so done with her.
Sage flicked Melody’s forehead and said, “Why are you thinking about this? You know what, I’ll tell
people from the family to bring you back to where you came from. At least that’ll get rid of one of my
troubles.”
“Don’t abandon me…” Melody immediately begged Sage to not send her back. Sage, however, was
unconvinced and walked away without any further discourse. After all, Sage knew that Melody knew
how to get what she wanted, and she didn’t want to give her any chance to
influence her decision.
Yoel stamped out his cigarette and walked over to Melody who was throwing a tantrum on the ground.
He looked down at her and asked, “Hey kid, can’t take a few harsh words?”
Melody was curled up into a ball and she looked up to Yoel, her misty eyes and soft voice almost
melted Yoel’s heart, “I think Sage is trying to get rid of me.” Yoel squatted down and ruffled her hair,
“Why? Is it because you were being too naughty?” Melody shook her head and sniffled, “I’ve always
been like that, I’m pretty sure she’s not mad because of this.”
Yoel tried his best to comfort her, “Why is she mad then?”
Melody could smell the faint tobacco smell off of Yoel, it was similar to the smell of herbs which felt
familiar to her. The nostalgic smell caused her to be somehow more confident about her chances.
Melody looked at Yoel with her starry eyes, her gaz eunwavered as she spoke, “Because I told her I
like you, that was why she was mad. Because I’m only seventeen and you’re as old as Ross, but I still
like you.”
“Are you trying to say that Sage is jealous?” asked Yoel.
Melody was enraged. ‘After all that, and that was what he was concerned with?’ thought Melody.
“I said I like you, do you not understand human speech?” asked Melody. Melody poked his dimples and
repeated herself, “I said, I. Like. You!” “So? I’ve always been favored by the girls around me. After all, I
have the looks,” replied Yoel nonchalantly. “On the other hand, Sage being jealous… that is a rare
occurrence. God knows, maybe she’s into me also? I’ll go ask her.” Yoel said as he got up and walked
over to said person.
