If they would stay as friends merely because they had failed to stay married, then what would they be if
they had failed to stay as lovers?
Sage’s question stumped Yoel.
Yoel thought about it hard. Even though he was quite experienced in dating, he had yet to experience
marriage, hence he did not know much about it. Yoel tossed the question to Jace instead. “What do
you think?”
Looking at Sage, Jace noticed the pain and hurt that lay hidden behind her smiling mask.
He remembered the day when he had asked for a divorce, Sage had been heartbroken. He also
remembered her plea, “Can we not get a divorce?”
At that point, Jace had not felt any remorse about bringing up the divorce. He had simply wanted to end
a loveless marriage so that he could provide a loving home for the one he loved, and he would be
setting Sage free at the same time.
However, he had felt a tug on his heartstrings, when he had heard her question.
It was as if someone was clenching his heart tightly.
“Why did you choose to marry me in the first place?” Jace finally asked the question he had been
meaning to ask all this time.
Furrowing her brows, Sage wondered why Jace was still obsessing over that question.
“I told you, it doesn’t matter. We’re already divorced, and what matters is that I have nothing to do with
you anymore,” replied Sage.
Sage then dragged Yoel by his collar. “Let’s go!”
“Hey hey, I’m going to trip, slow down…” complained Yoel as he staggered and stumbled alongside
Sage.
Just when she stepped outside her office, someone grabbed her wrist.
Jace had chased after her. “You’re from the Norah family, so it does not make sense that you married
me for money or fame. Why did you show up when I was paralyzed from the accident? Why did you
decide to marry me? What is it that you are after?”
His voice was just loud enough for everyone present to hear and just like a stone dropped into the lake,
his remarks caused a stir in the CEO’s office.
Finn who was walking toward the office heard Jace, and his pupils contracted.
There was a silence in the CEO’s office. Shock and surprise were written across everyone’s faces.
What did he just say?
Miss Sage was once married?
If that was the case, Mr. Jace was Miss Sage’s husband?
Sage wanted to ignore Jace but Jace insisted on getting to the bottom of the matter.
She looked down at Jace’s hand that was wrapped around her wrist, then looked up to meet his
confused gaze. Sage simply thought that this situation was absurd and plain ridiculous,
She released her grip on Yoel, walked toward Jace, and said, “Let go.”
Jace usually tried to avoid physical contact with the opposite sex, but because he was determined to
get an answer from her, he tightened his grip. He was worried that if he were to loosen it for a second,
she would run away.
“I’ll let go once you answer my question.”
Sage felt a burning rage building up in her. Glaring furiously at Jace, Sage could not understand why
Jace was acting all weird and … clingy
She tried to struggle out of his grip, but Jace had a firm grip on her.
Sage looked into his eyes and asked, “What do you want to hear?”
Taken aback, Jace replied, “I”
“About how much I love you? Or how I’ve had a crush on you for a long time, and when I heard that
you got into an accident I volunteered to stay by your side to take care of you? Or that I fell in love at
first sight, and I had to be with you?”
