The storm thundered outside the cafe, and Melody’s words thundered inside Yoel’s head.
Yoel has always been a lady’s man, this wasn’t the first time he was being confessed to. However, this
was the first time somebody wanted to run away with him. ‘Is every kid nowadays so forward-thinking?’
Yoel thought to himself. Yoel turned to Sage for help. “Why are you so calm. Do something about her!”
Sage glanced at Melody, “Can’t help you. You can take her if you want to,” replied Sage.
Yoel was at a loss for words.
When Yoel looked at Melody, he caught her staring intently at him and his heart sank. ‘She wouldn’t
actually be serious about liking me… Right?’ Yoel thought to himself. When the storm outside calmed
down, Sage and the others left the racecourse.
Yoel, who was scared that Melody who do anything to him, immediately fled the scene. Melody stared
intently at Yoel’s car and asked Sage, “Why is he so scared of me? I’m not going to hurt him.” “Hah. He
isn’t scared of you. He’s afraid of your father.” replied Sage.
Yoel was a natural scaredy cat. After all, Ross was not only known as a great doctor but he was also
known to be well-versed with poisons and toxins. Ross’s reputation preceded him and even the public
thought of him as an achieved doctor. Yoel has heard rumors; rumors that say all he needed was a
small needle to end a life. Even Yoel’s dad respected Ross for his ability and knowledge.
The only thought that crossed Yoel when he heard Melody say that she liked him was to run as far
away from Ross as possible.
Sage originally wanted to go back to the company, but now that Ross was here, she decided to return
to Rosa Garden instead.
Melody stayed silent for the whole journey home. Sage wasn’t sure if the young girl was hurt by how
Yoel rejected her or if she did not know how to face her dad after running away from home.
Sage always feel that Melody had a striking resemblance to herself, especially when she was her age.
After all, she too had a lot to do with how Melody was brought up. Sage sighed and asked Melody, “Do
you really like him that much?” Melody’s head snapped up and she looked Sage. After a moment of
hesitation, she nods her head furiously. Melody’s face suddenly seemed to have brightened as she
looked past Sage and said, “Have you heard of love at first sight? I feel this is what I’m experiencing
now.” Sage’s pupil contracted when she heard Melody’s words. After all, she too thought that Jace
was her love at first sight. Sage couldn’t bring herself to tell Melody that falling in love was easy, but
staying in love was the hardest part.
Sage did not scold her or tried to discourage Melody. Instead, Sage looked at Melody with supportive
eyes, “Melody, you have the right to fall in love with anybody you like. However, that doesn’t mean that
others have to reciprocate your love. Love has a price.”
Melody was clearly confused, “Price? What’s the price?” “It’s different for everybody. Some sell out their
body, for others it might be money or time, and the unfortunate ones pay with their hearts. Even if
you’re ready to pay the price, it doesn’t mean that he would understand how much you sacrificed for
him, he might even betray you in the future,” replied Sage. Melody could not understand what Sage
was talking about, “But I love him. Who cares if he understands or not.”
