A lot of things had happened that year.
There had been a financial crisis, and a handful of companies were on the verge of bankruptcy. The
Zelda Group had been blacklisted for its dishonesty.
Jace, on the other hand, had been involved in a serious car accident. His life was on the line, and all
the newspapers had covered the accident.
However, prior to his accident, there had been another tragedy that had caused a stir within the country
and abroad.
It was a car accident involving the chairperson of Norah Group and his wife.
For over a month all news outlets had covered the crash, and it the investigation had even involved
Interpool.
In the end, the investigation revealed that someone had planted a timed bomb in the car. It was that
bomb that had caused the explosion, burning the chairperson, his wife, and the driver to death.
The terrible tragedy had shocked the entire nation
There had been rumors circulating that it could have been a plot by the Group’s rivals, and the Yuriels
had been listed as prime suspects. They had even been summoned by the police.
At that time, Jace had been assigned to one of the subsidiary companies for a project, and he had not
been at the headquarters in Nadeem City. Furthermore, he had been occupied with trying to solve the
debts of the Zelda family. Hence, he did not pay much attention to the incident involving the Norah
family.
He only remembered the chairperson and his wife’s funeral being covered on the news. Their only
daughter was dressed in all black, and she had her back facing the camera throughout the duration of
the funeral.
For some reason, he still remembered that even though she looked frail and thin, she seemed resolute
and unwavering.
Jace was suddenly reminded of the time when he had been discharged from the hospital. His mother
had wanted him to pick someone from the group of caretakers to be his wife. This left most of the
doctors and nurses in shock and surprise.
Sage was the only one who had not reacted. She had continued her duties and pretended that she had
not heard the argument between mother and son. Standing by the window with her back facing him,
she was concentrating on preparing the medication.
That was when Jace chose her. Pointing at her back, he said, “I want her.”
Amidst the gasps and surprised whispers among the crowd, Sage turned around to face him. As soon
as she noticed that he was pointing at her, she froze, and her eyes were filled with surprise and shock.
She accepted his request without any hesitation. “Sure.”
For some reason, he thought that Sage had looked familiar. Not only from the way she looked from
behind but something about her face too, especially her eyes and the way that she had looked at him.
Finn had mentioned that Sage had a crush on someone for almost ten years and that someone might
be him.
“Sir, these are your whereabouts from ten years ago.”
Hunter passed a stack of documents to Jace and said, “You were still serving in the military ten years
ago and were sent on several ambuscades in forests and jungles. I don’t think you’d have the time to
have any encounters with anyone.”
This was exactly what Jace had found suspicious.
Before he married Sage, he had rarely had any encounters with other girls aside from Sienna. He had
spent most of his time serving in the military.
If so, when during those ten years did he meet Sage?
Going through the information on his whereabouts, he had confirmed Hunter’s words. He had spent
most of the time in the jungles, and it was impossible for him to have encountered Sage there.
He racked his brain trying to recall everything that he could. Jace suddenly recalled a young girl that he
had met at Cloud Forest.
It was a fourteen-year-old girl, and she had been kidnapped.
“Fourteen years old…”
With his eyes closed, Jace mumbled softly as he recalled the young girl’s bright smile and her dirty
face. “Thank you for saving me. What is your name? When I grow up, I will repay your kindness.”
The young girl’s eyes looked similar to Sage’s bright eyes. Jace opened his eyes abruptly and asked,
“How old is Sage this year?”
