Jace sat on the chair. His eyes never left Sage’s forehead. Her forehead was still wrapped
in dressing. Nigel was the one who bandaged it for her, and he even cut out the shape of a rabbit and
pasted it on her forehead. It was adorable.
If only the skin behind the dressing was not a wound.
Sage ignored his worried gaze and asked, “Have you been tracking Jekyll?” The reason he could arrive
so quickly was surely not a coincidence. Sage found out from Laura that Jace had been tracking
Jekyll’s whereabouts.
Not only did Jace request help from his ex-comrades for help, he even spent a massive amount on
hiring a group of special forces.
After the accident, Sage was unconscious and had no idea what had happened at the scene.
She was relieved when she found out that Jekyll had been arrested. Sage thought it was her men who
caught him, but Luther told her that when they arrived, it was chaos.
Even though Sage had her own men, Jekyll had his men too. Both parties got physical at the scene.
At the time, police were still quite a distance away. It was Jace who got there and got ahold of the
situation. Yoel arrived shortly after with his men as well and finally caught Jekyll.
Almost all of Jekyll’s men were either shot or caught. Plenty of Jace’s and Yoel’s men were also down.
Yoel was called over by Jace. Jace was the biggest contributor to getting Jekyll arrested.
Jace hummed in response to Sage’s question. “Stop looking into Jekyll, or you might get involved in
more trouble.”
Sage said calmly and slowly, so polite that it sounded like she was distant and indifferent. It was as if
she did not care about Jace saving her life.
She treated him the same as before.
Jace looked up slowly. He had been working so much the past few nights that he was exhausted, and
his voice was hoarse.
“Even though Jekyll has been arrested, he has a different nationality. With cases as important and
severe as this, he might be sent back to his country for prosecution.
“That’s why I can’t just stop investigating. We accepted the Cloud Forest mission back then, so we
need to end it. Even though I’m not in the troops anymore, I can’t just remove myself from the mission
knowing that Jekyll and his men are still out there.”
Jace was aware of everything that had happened. Jace explained and defended himself without waiting
for Sage to refute.
Jace said, “I have a question.”
“What’s that?” Asked Sage.
“Aside from Jekyll, is there another group of people after you?”
Sage dodged his eyes. “What did you find out?”
Her response further confirmed Jace’s suspicion.
He pursed his lips and said, “It’s just a guess. Jekyll has been attempting to cause you trouble ever
since he came back. It might seem like he’s trying to harm you, but whenever he gets the chance to
cause some serious damage, he’d let you go…”
It was as if they played cat and mouse, but of course, Jace did not say that out loud. He did not want to
get beaten up, but it was the truth. The hijacking and explosion accident back in the club, or when the
thug attempted to hit her with an iron rod. It seemed like she was in grave danger, but they always let
her go at the last moment.
They did not actually want her dead. “You baited him during the car race and purposefully caused an
accident because you’ve also noticed that he wasn’t trying to kill you, right?”
Jace made his assumption.
Jekyll did not want Sage dead. Sage had the chance to end Jekyll’s life but did not do it. What was the
reason behind it all?
