“Oh, so this is about Sage…”
Mendoza suddenly felt guilty when he heard Sage’s name. He quietly scolded his stupid apprentice in
his heart. Jace made a mistake and as a result, Mendoza got scolded for it.
“Well, isn’t it just money? I’ll tell Jace to give Sage more and treat it as part of the alimony.”
Mendoza spoke nicely but unexpectedly made Wayne explode in anger. “Go to h*ll with your alimony. I
can support my granddaughter. Do I need Jace to support her? What I want from him is compensation
for Sage’s mental anguish!” Mendoza felt that he was about to go deaf. His head was buzzing. “Okay,
okay. Stop shouting. Did you forget that you were so close to death? Mental damage? Okay! I’ll make
Jace pay!” The two men finally hung up the phone after arguing for a long time.
Wayne finally vented his anger after scolding the two old foxes. He returned the phone to the nurse and
urged with a smile, “Please don’t tell Sage about this.”
Sage received a call from the nurse when she was on the way to the airport. She was scheduled to
take the evening flight to Brown City. After listening to the nurse’s report, Sage responded, “I see.”
Sage kept her phone away. She felt warm and smiled softly. “He’s really…”
At the same time, Simon and Mendoza called Jace and scolded him.
Yoel, beside Jace, overheard the conversation and laughed at his friend’s misery. Yoel snickered after
Jace hung up. “Did you get scolded again? Have you noticed something? Ever since you divorced
Sage, you have somehow become unlikable. People around you kept scolding you, including Sage’s
family and your family. Tsk, tsk tsk. You’re so pitiful. Sage indeed brings good fortune. Looks like your
luck has gone bad after your divorce.”
“Can you please shut up?” Jace said coldly, “I think you’re quite annoying too.” Yoel did not care and
answered with a mean smile, “It’s okay if you hate me, as long as Sage likes me.”
Jace did not want to waste time with him. At the same time, Zayne came and knocked on the door.
“Mister Jace, the car is ready. You may depart now.”
Yoel carried a black bag and walked out. He leaned against Jace lazily as they waited for the elevator.
Suddenly, his mood turned melancholy.
“I don’t know what it’ll be like in Brown City. I heard Asher is seriously injured and also paraplegic. His
condition is similar to yours back then. I don’t even know if he can recover.” Then, he dramatically
sighed, “Ah, my dearest comrade-in-arms, you must have suffered!” Jace said in a deep voice, “With
effort, one can achieve anything.”
It was rare for Yoel to nod solemnly. He entered the elevator and said excitedly, “Oh, by the way, I
heard that the doctor who will operate on Asher is the same doctor who saved you back then.”
Jace’s eyes flickered a little as he replied with a faint hum.
“I’m sure it’ll be fine! You were injured so badly back then, but Dr. S cured you and nursed you back to
health. Aren’t you alive and kicking now? Asher will be fine too!”
Yoel became confident again. He asked, full of curiosity, “I wonder if Dr. S is nice. I heard she’s a young
and beautiful doctor. I look forward to meeting her.”
Jace remained speechless with a complicated expression. He scoffed, “Remember to put on your
spectacles and fix your bad vision.”
“Don’t worry about me.” Yoel looked up in amusement. “My eyesight is excellent. I can see clearly!”
“Well, good luck,” Jace said earnestly. Yoel did not reply, but his eyebrow jumped a little. Somehow, he
sensed a bad omen.
