Cole added, “I’ve checked her flight. She has arrived at Salem City Airport, and I also found out that…
Jekyll is now in Salem City.”
“Jekyll is in Salem City?”
Jace’s expression changed again. Based on his earlier investigations, Jekyll was supposed to be in
Smoke City Port, ready to be extradited out of the country. “I think they created a smokescreen for you.
I just found out about it this afternoon.” Cole said, “Think about it. Jekyll came back for Sage. Why
would he run before he achieved his goal? Are you still with Sage? Be sure to remind her to be
careful.” At this point, Jace’s heart was in his throat. He hurriedly took Zachary’s number and called
Sage. However, she did not answer.
He rolled out of bed and called Laura as he changed.
The phone rang twice and connected. He asked, “Are you with Sage now?” “Yeah. We are… Ugh-”
Laura slumped on the side of the road and threw up again. “I’m telling you. Sage, she’s… She’s not
human.”
Jace frowned as he listened to the noisy background. “Are you at a bar? Which bar?”
He changed his clothes, put on his hat, and left the ward.
There was no response from Laura except for the intermittent vomiting and wheezing noises. Jace was
desperate and almost panicked. Suddenly, a cool voice sounded faintly in the call,” Are you okay? Miss
Lane, you’re a special force member, but I didn’t expect you to have car motion sickness.”
Car motion sickness?
Jace’s footsteps stopped.
Laura disagreed. “I don’t get dizzy when I drive, but the way you drive.. it’s too crazy! We’ve raced cars
in the camp too, in off-road vehicles, but we don’t have so many tricks like you.”
Car racing?
Jace continued striding and told Zayne to check out the racing circuits in Salem City immediately.
Sage said with a smile, “I told you it’s for entertainment. This race is all about the tricks. Next, it’s all
about speed. Do you want to do it again?”
“No, no. I still want to return to my team alive.” Laura waved at her and refused to get into Sage’s car
again. Luther said, “I’ll go! I can be your navigator!”
“It’s not a rally. No need.”
Sage looked at Laura, who was pale and still vomiting. She told Luther, “Please take care of Laura. If
anything happens to her, Kane will kill us.”
Then, she got into the car with a smile.
Laura’s phone rang once again.
She finally remembered that she was talking to Jace earlier. She answered the call and muttered,
“Hello, Jace…” Jace entered the parking lot and grabbed his phone tightly. He asked anxiously, “Are
you guys at the racing circuit at North Bay Bridge?” “Yeah. How did you know?”
Jace got in the car and urged, “I’ll be right there! Stay close to Sage. I’ve gotten word that Jekyll is in
Salem City now. I’m afraid he might harm Sage…”
As Jace was speaking, Laura and Luther saw a man jump into Sage’s car from the front passenger
seat of another car. He grabbed Sage’s steering wheel, and the car swished away. “Sage!”
Laura shouted in a panic. She quickly told Jace, “Sh*t. It’s Jekyll. He got into Sage’s car!” Jace hung up
the phone with a chill in his eyes. He immediately started the engine and turned the car rapidly, leaving
rubber marks on the ground.
