Yeva was not aware of the fact that her room was under surveillance, nor was she aware of the fact

that Sage was watching her every move and listening to every word.

Luther could not help but exclaim, “I thought that you were ruthless, but it seems that your cousins are

no weaker than you, especially Yeva. You have treated them well and have always shared good things

with them, but this is exactly like the story about the snake and the farmer. Who would have thought

that they would have turned on you? It is true that some people don’t deserve to be treated nicely”

Sage had watched enough. Turning off the video, she said indifferently, “It’s not too late. Now that I’ve

seen her true colors, there’s n o need for me to show her mercy.”

“Yeva is exactly like her father: both of them extremely jealous and resentful. She resents people who

have it better than her, but I don’t think the same could be said for Leah.”

Luther added, “I don’t know about her, but I do know that ever since your third uncle married that sly

woman, Leah has had a tough life. She had almost dropped out of college, and she had paid her tuition

fees using the money that she had saved by working several part-time jobs. I heard that she hasn’t

been home in three years, and Zane had not even cared about her. He only had eyes for his wife and

their precious son.”

Leaning into the sofa, Sage smirked. “Uncle Zane always had a patriarchal view and always wanted a

son.

“Or perhaps he harbored dreams of becoming a king, and therefore, he would need someone to

replace him once he is gone.”

Sage shook her head. “How can he have such a feudal view? It’s just hopeless.”

Luther asked, “So what do we do now? Your cousins are plotting and scheming against you.”

Taking a sip of coffee from her cup, Sage replied nonchalantly, “It’s nice that they are protesting. The

days are so boring and dull otherwise.”

Sage had decided to deal with them when the time came.

Jace did not get any rest throughout the day. He attended meeting after meeting.

As soon as the meeting ended, Jace took out his phone to find that he had several missed calls from

his mother and Sienna.

Jace ignored the missed calls from Sienna and only returned his mother’s calls. “I was in a meeting

earlier. What’s wrong?”

There was never any small talk between mother and son. It had always been this way.

Cutting to the chase, Freya said, “I heard that you went to Salem City. How did things go with Sage?

When are you guys planning to get back together?”

After a long day of meetings, Jace felt slightly suffocated. Loosening his necktie, he replied, “Mom,

Sage, and I are divorced.”

“I know, that is why I’m asking when you guys are planning to get back together.”

Freya thought that her question did not sound weird. Seeing how Jace stayed silent, she added, “Why?

Did you hit a wall? It’s expected, right? Do you even remember how you treated Sage back then? If I

was her, I would ignore you as well. Listen to me son, n o matter how she rejects or scolds you, you

have to suck it up. If she scolds you, you should just take it; if she hits you, you should take it as well…

In any case, I don’t care how you do it, I just want my daughter-in-law back! Do you hear me?”

Jace was speechless.

He seriously doubted that he was Freya’s biological son, and he did consider that Sage might be her

true daughter.

Hunter knocked on the door and entered the office with a pile of newspapers in his hands. Panting, he

said, “Sir, this is all the information that you asked for!” 1

He sent up a cloud of dust when he placed the papers on the coffee table.

Jace furrowed his brows annoyed. “Where did you get all these from?”

“I put in a lot of effort into collecting and gathering all these papers. Most of the online articles had

either been deleted or they were incomplete, so I had to look for the physical papers instead.”

Hunter exclaimed, “I can’t believe that a newspaper still has its’ value.”

Jace started going through the pile of old newspapers. He did not seem to care about the dust.

All he cared about was finding out the truth as to why Sage had decided to marry him.

It was a special year, three years ago.
