Melody’s cries rang throughout the whole course and that drew everybody’s attention.
Sage, Leah, and Hunter immediately went over to Melody and before Yoel could say anything, all three
of them said in unison, “Did you hurt her?” “I didn’t, it’s not me. I didn’t do anything!” explained Yoel,
clearly flustered from all the commotion.
Melody doesn’t cry often, but when the tears started to flow, it couldn’t be stopped. Melody looked
toward Sage and said, “Sage, he…” Yoel couldn’t believe what he was hearing, and looked at Melody
in disbelief. Sage stared at Yoel menacingly, “Don’t be afraid, Melody. Tell me, what did he do to you?”
Melody replied in between sobs, “He… he was mean to me.” Yoel couldn’t believe that she actually
thought that he was mean to her. “What did I say?” asked Yoel.
Melody snapped around and stared at Yoel with tears still flowing down her face. Her eyes were now
red from crying, and her nose was stuffed. She said, “You were laughing at how I fell off a pony!” ‘I was
just stating facts,’ thought Yoel to himself. However, when Yoel saw the tears streaking down Melody’s
face, he felt a pang of guilt in his stomach. He quickly apologized, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it as an
insult. I’ll make sure it pays for scaring you the way it did. I’ll flog it until it learns its lessons” “No!”
Melody exclaimed and her sobbing finally stopped , “It’s my pony, don’t you dare do that!”
Yoel smiled and said, “As long as you don’t cry, I won’t.” “Okay, I’ll stop crying,” Melody promised as
she rubbed the tears on her face with the back of her hand.
Melody finally realized that she was sitting on an actual horse and she immediately exclaimed, “That
was so high!” Melody unconsciously grabbed Yoel’s tighs. She looked around and felt the urge to cry
again.” How do I get down?” asked Melody. Melody turned helplessly towards Sage, “Sage, help…”
Sage shook her head and said, “Sorry, I can’t do anything about that. I can’t carry you.” Melody’s eyes
widen in disbelief, did Sage just call her fat? Yoel chuckled and he grabbed Melody by her waist.
Melody felt the wind rush past her ears and the next thing she knew, her feet were touching the ground.
‘How did I get off? That was amazing.’ Melody thought to herself.
Melody watched Yoel intently, she stared at his immaculate structure and she could feel herself getting
lost in his eyes, all her previous negative emotions slowly dissipating. Suddenly, Melody broke into
laughter. Although there were still some tears in her eyes, her smile turned into something like a sun
cutting through a hazy, rainy day. “Thank you for saving me,” thanked Melody. Yoel was surprised by
the sudden change in attitude.
Even if Yoel was caught off guard by how quickly Melody’s mood changed, he still felt pleasantly
surprised. ‘At least she knows how to be grateful towards her savior,’ thought Yoel to himself. “You’re
welcome,” Yoel replied as he ruffled Melody’s hair. Yoel couldn’t fault a child. He was an adult after all.
